Professional Review

Skate series is the closest thing to real skateboarding you can get from a video game. In this part of the franchise, you get to make your own professional team and design a new skateboard brand. You can download Skate 3 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Graphics: 3.5

Looks of the game are a bit raw, but it’s still more polished than its predecessors. The framerate is erratic, and there’s a certain clumsiness in the Skate 3 mechanics. The animations work well in transmitting the sense of board and the real-life physics, but the game lacks vividness and details that could enrich the whole simulator experience. Still, there’s a brand new ability to create your own graphics and videos that can keep you graphically busy.

Gameplay: 4

You’re a professional skater now, and the game unwraps around your path to glory. You will have to make the team from AI characters or real players and dive into skateboard business. All the competitions in a career mood are now played in the company of your teammates, and that’s probably the one new feature that stands out. Everything else about the game is very similar to its previous editions. You have many customization possibilities for your team and gear and even get the opportunity to design your own skatepark. You will also make films and photo shoots to promote your team between competitions.

Non-storyline modes are quite good too: you’re able to choose from Own the Spot, Deathraces and Hall of Meat where you break your bones and make a score. There are also significant additions to online modes, the best of them being The Domination, where you compete with an opponent in the same environment. At the same time, the developers got rid of such frustrating modes as S.K.A.T.E. The AI players are still a little bit messy, and you will enjoy the game more when teaming up with offline or online real players.

Controls: 4

Judging from the controls, Skate 3 is a big step forward from the previous chapters and one of the best skating stimulators there is. Controls are smartly built up to the game physics, and you can regulate your difficulty level which is perfect for newbies but also makes this game a fascinating experience for more professional players. The main control tools are left and right thumbsticks for the body and the board respectively. Other buttons are needed for different types of skating, but it doesn’t take long for you to grasp them intuitively. However, sometimes there’s a severe lack of precision in controlling your tricks, and AI players and pedestrians are still slow-witted and would undoubtedly give you a hard time.

Replay Value: 4.5

No matter how severe some of Skate 3 reviewers are, everyone agrees that this game is excellent for replays, especially with some other players involved. Team challenges and cooperations are essential for the game, and they depend as much on the level of every player as on the strategy of the team. The game is praised for the great customization possibilities: skateboard upgrades have never been as diverse. And don’t forget about the user-created skateparks, a valuable addition to the genre in general!

Skate 3 can be a bit disappointing to the fans of Skate series which, probably, expected the elimination of all of the Skate 2 bugs. Some of them are still present, but thanks to its difficulty regulation and severe improvements in physics, this is the best game for the newcomers to skate stimulator genre, and it’s also a wonderful opportunity for experienced players. Multiplayer features are very well developed, and Skate 3 can quickly become your number one online multiplayer stimulator or your top choice for a hangout with friends.

Breaking bones have never been as fun! Download Skate 3 for your console to experience the ups and downs of professional skateboarding.
