Professional Review

Wrestling games are a special rare kind. WWE 2K16 first of all had to make its predecessor tap, and (to cut a long story short) it did. Its PC version was released after console versions, and it has its specific moments.

Graphics: 5

In a word, it’s alive. The ring, the audience, the referee, and, of course, the wrestlers look very realistic. It must have taken a lot of work to capture the movements and to recreate it, and it shows. As the fighters hit, throw, catch each other, it looks like you’re watching real combat. Yes, it lacks some details, but you only can notice it if you’re watching instead of playing.

It’s as enormous as its all muscled up characters. The game requires 44 GB on your drive, and seems that some of this volume is steroid grown; the graphics potential is obviously limited by the necessity to release the game for old consoles too.

The commentaries are only available in English, and it adds to total experience even if you play in a different language. The wrestlers and the audience make a much natural sound.

Due to high resolution, rich details, and up to 60 FPS support, the requirements of the game are rather high. So check them on the official page before purchasing the game, or you’ll have to spend much more money on hardware to truly enjoy it.

Gameplay: 5

It’s all basically simple. One fighter is you, the other is not you. Control your character to fight the rival, that’s it. So it’s all about how you do it.

Fighting requires a lot of keys to learn. During the fight, you need to watch your health and stamina level and consider your opponent’s weaknesses. As we said, the digital wrestlers keep the strengths and the weaknesses of their living prototypes.

The other part of the game is your off-ring behavior. As you build or ruin your reputation, you may get some fighting bonuses or, on the contrary, fines that will impact your fighting abilities.

You start your career in NXT. Then (if you succeed) you proceed to greater tournaments, like WrestleMania or Summer Slam. As characters you may become or defy are based on their real prototypes, including Steve “Stone Cold” Austin you follow in Showcase 2K mode.

And yes, there IS an online mode. So you can finally show off your fighting skills online.

Controls: 5

As the game is available for PC, the controller is not necessary (though supported). You can do anything at your keyboard, and some say it works even better. It’s quite doubtable (as the game was originally released for consoles), but the fact is that it has been ported perfectly, and keyboard controls at least work properly. And the rest is about what you’re used to.

Replay Value: 5

Most sports games have almost absolute replay value, as you can combine various characters to control and as various opponents. Besides that, there are different styles you may want to master and try. And (last but not least) PC offers control options; maybe playing the same game with varying devices of control will give you different kinds of experience. So WWE 2K16 is highly replayable.

The game has much fewer rivals to fight than your character within it. In fact, the developers’ mission was not to fail what they promised in the previous installment. And the game has no flaws but those that follow its pros.

And still WWE 2K16 is the best wrestling game around; but it lacks serious competition to grow yet tougher.

Pros : Great graphics
Many superstars and divas available
Properly made keyboard controls

Cons : High system requirements
Graphics limited in details to fit old consoles’ hardware limitations; that’s OK for consoles, but we’re on PCs!
