Professional Review

One of the classic casual games, Rescue Team, has lived through several installments and received positive acclaims worldwide. Essentially it’s a time management strategy, but there’s something more to its simple graphics and gameplay. That’s why Rescue Team is still playable after two decades.

Graphics: 4

Well, it’s a 2D (pseudo 3D) game released in 2001, and it only requires 50 MB on your drive and 64 MB (no typo, 64 MB, not GB!) video card. What could be graphics like in this modesty? Well, it’s rather good for its size (though as schematic as in most Millennium games).

But its vividness saves the impression. Light-minded and easily readable, it shows all the elements with its share of conventionality, but Rescue Team is not about photorealism. Made initially for low-resolution screens, now it looks quite good on FullHD and higher resolutions.

Gameplay: 5

So, your mission is to repair your mansion severely damaged after the storm. To earn money, you command the rescue team working in a small village. Your mission is to repair the roads, save the lost people, find treasures. And earn more money to pay for equipment and services (like roadworks, helicopters, accelerators and so on). So you can (among all) open cottages for rent and sell fast food. Yes, it’s a part of the rescue team’s job.

The game is about time, so try to complete it before the signal. The more time you spend, the smaller reward you get. Select the object of your attention wisely: while a worker has a job to do, you can’t send him for another until he’s home.

Controls: 5

Mouse, and mouse again – that’s all you need in this game. Once you type your player name at the start, you won’t need the keyboard anymore. Of course, if you use a PC with a touchscreen, you can use touch controls as well.

This simplicity allows you to start playing right away when you have installed the game. Yet it doesn’t impact the involvement; as you started making it out, you’re in.

Replay Value: 4

You can always find a better way to complete the level. As the game gets more familiar, you don’t even need to acknowledge your choice, you just make it. So the game is highly replayable even if you’re new to it.

Yes, for many old school players Rescue Team is rather of nostalgic value. That is, you don’t care about its absolute replayability. It just gives you that feeling you had back then, and that’s quite a choice to relive those times.

A simple but still attractive game still lives for us to enjoy. If you want, you may try its sequels, just as lightweight and strategic. Since the game is available on Steam, it’s a bit updated to be compatible with modern computers and Windows versions.

A classic casual game that won’t blow your mind but still keeps your brain active.

Pros : Amusing gameplay
Low system requirement
Full compatibility with actual hardware
Casual playing possible

Cons : May seem too lightminded for experienced players
Some may find its graphics obsolete and gameplay too easy
