Professional Review

The original mobile Plague Inc. spread like a real one, becoming a new intellectual strategy mainstream. The follow-up made its way to the prepared PC gamers, but does “prepared” mean “immune”?

Graphics: 5

The mobile hardware of 2012 (when the original Plague Inc. was released) seems funny and miserable now. On PC there’s more space to realize the ideas. Well, most of the action happens on the world map with decease points flashing red, ships and planes moving between countries, news popping up in the middle of the screen. Not that spectacular, though clear and easy. But the plague control section looks like a real sci-fi movie.

You won’t see humans torn apart by all those lethal symptoms described in the evolution section; but if your imagination is vivid enough, you can feel itchy while playing.

Gameplay: 5

Your mission here is to infect and destroy humankind (sounds funny, right?) Your weapon is bacteria or virus, and other pathogens you gradually unlock. You control the mutations so that it can spread, kill, and survive. Select the country to start. And then spread, accounting geographical and social factors (climate, wellness, medicine level, borders, and so on). There should be no one left alive before they invent the cure!

Keep in mind that people aren’t just going to lay down and die. Countries block borders, improve biological security on ships and planes, research cures, and (if it comes to this) execute sick ones and even bomb their own cities to stop the plague. Prepare for this and watch the news.

Upgrade your virus as you collect the points from the map. Destroy research labs. Devolve some upgrades if you need more points (for example, you have already extinguished everyone in Asia and Africa and now need to conquer Northern countries).

You can also play online. So you can release two plagues simultaneously, and the one that clears the Earth first wins. But your plague can be extinguished either by human medicine or by rival bacteria, so beware!

Controls: 5

In fact, just a mouse will do (and if your PC has a touchscreen, it’s fine too). But keyboard shortcuts are also here, for selecting mutations from the evolution screen. There’s just nothing to learn; the controls are as simple as can be.

Replay Value: 4.5

The better you master it, the fewer surprises it keeps. But still, due to scenarios and scenario maker Plague Inc. is highly replayable. Besides that, you can just switch difficulty modes (though Casual and Normal modes seem too easy, so you have to master Brutal, and then Mega Brutal).

Plague Inc. Evolved still has little analogs, so it’s still highly playable. Its system requirements are low, so it runs smoothly even on old PCs. If you like real intellectual games, why not feel like a real villain and play against the world?

A great game from mobile world has become much richer on PC, but the inhuman mind essence is intact, and that’s what we love it for.

Pros : A real strategic challenge (on Brutal and Mega Brutal)
Great graphics with low requirements
Adjustable speed, so the game won’t be too fast or too slow
Something to feed your inner Dr. Evil

Cons : You may find this unethical to try to destroy mankind (even in the game)
